February 1, 2012

 Dear Chapter Members,

At the beginning of this new year, I send very best wishes to each of you.  It looks like the winter of 2012 has started with favorably mild weather and I know all of us are thankful for the reprieve from the ice and snow.  At least for now.

Spring Samboree

We're  starting to work on the Spring Samboree to be held in Shawnee on April 26th- 29th.  The theme is "Under the Big Top" which lends itself to a circus/carnival mode.  There has been some discussion about how to make the samboree more fun and enjoyable with this theme in mind.  I think we have just the thing!

On Thursday night, it has been suggested that we have carnival games which would be reminiscent of a carnival midway.  Do you recall the good times you had tossing a ring over a bottle or throwing pennies into jars?  These are just two example:
Each chapter who wishes to participate in a carnival game of their choosing will be given a booth comprised of a table or two in the hospitality area of the Expo Center building.   The chapter will plan       and furnish all the necessary items for the booth such as the rings and bottles, pennies and jars I used in the above examples.  The chapter will also determine the operation of the game and furnish small prizes for the winners of the games.  It doesn't  need to be elaborate, just fun and entertaining.

Keith Ward and Kenneth Griffin have volunteered to be in charge of the games. They will need to know how many of our chapters will participate and their choice of games.

At this time, I am asking all the chapters to let me know if they will participate in the games and what game they have chosen.  Please put this item on your agenda for discussion at your next meeting and let me know your result.  I promise you, the chapters who come together to work on their game will benefit greatly by the good feelings of fun, fellowship and service and will also benefit our organization.

I wholeheartedly  encourage each of you to come together and plan your part in our Thursday night entertainment.   As time progresses, I will keep you updated on the plans.

Agenda Items

The Spring Committee Meeting will be held on Saturday, April 28th, at 10:00 a.m. If you have any items you wish placed on the agenda, email or mail the item(s) to me by March lOth.

Tabs

At the 2011 Fall Samboree in Claremore last October, Pete Kelley with the Sim R-On Sams asked all of us to save tabs for the Ronald McDonald House in Oklahoma City.  There will be a representative from the Ronald McDonald House at our Spring Samboree to accept all the tabs we have accumulated.

I received a challenge from the Roadrunner Sams.  They have challenged each chapter to see who saves the most tabs.  Of course, the Sim-R-Ons Sams are way ahead of all of us, so they are going to have to be honorary judges to the challenge.  What do you say?  Are you in?  Start saving and bring those tabs to Shawnee.

Pictures of Service/Charitable Works

Our Oklahoma Good Sam Club now has a place on its website to display pictures of chapter members  performing service projects and charitable works.  If your chapter has pictures of current  projects or works, email them to our State Webmaster, Sue Foster, at iluvrvn@olp.net . Be sure to identify your chapter and the members in the picture along with a few sentences describing your activity.  To view our Oklahoma website, go to www.oklahomagoodsams.com.

That's all from here for now.  I look forward to hearing from each of you soon with your interest in the Thursday night games at the samboree.  Many thanks to all of you for all you do for our Good Sam Club here in Oklahoma.

Yours truly,

  “Catch the Good Sam Spirit!”
